                          Jinxiang Garlic Enters Planting Season

Jinxiang, China, known as the "Hometown of Garlic", is currently in the autumn garlic planting season. However, the continuous rainy weather from September to October this year has significantly affected the sowing work.
As of October 22, the sowing progress of garlic in Jinxiang stands at 40%-50%, still 20-30 percentage points behind the same period in previous years. Excessive soil moisture has hindered the respiration of garlic cloves, potentially reducing the germination rate by over 50%. In some early-sown plots, the decay rate of garlic cloves has reached as high as 10%-15%.
To address these issues, the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau of Jinxiang County has taken a series of measures. They have organized 51 agricultural technicians to go deep into towns, streets, and farmers' homes to provide on-site guidance. Technician Zhang Yuefeng demonstrated garlic seed selection techniques at the planting base in Huji Town, explaining key points such as "drying seeds for 2-3 days, maintaining a plant spacing of 15 centimeters, and sowing at a depth of 3-5 centimeters". In addition, the bureau has compiled a Garlic Planting Technical Manual to help farmers standardize their planting operations.
Despite the challenges, with the support of agricultural technicians and the efforts of farmers, the garlic sowing work in Jinxiang is still progressing. It is expected that the garlic planting area in Jinxiang this autumn will exceed 600,000 mu.
